AFM offers several advantages over other microscopy techniques:
High Resolution: Achieves atomic or molecular level resolution. Versatility: Can be used on a wide variety of samples, including biological, polymeric, and inorganic materials. Minimal Sample Preparation: Requires little to no sample preparation, preserving the natural state of the sample.
However, AFM also has some limitations:
Slow Imaging Speed: Scanning can be time-consuming compared to other techniques like SEM. Limited Scan Size: The scan area is typically limited to a few micrometers. Tip Wear: The sharp tip can wear out over time, affecting the accuracy and resolution of the images.
