How Can We Assess the Genotoxicity of Nanomaterials?
Assessing the genotoxicity of nanomaterials involves a combination of in vitro and in vivo studies. In vitro assays, such as the Comet Assay and Micronucleus Assay, are commonly used to detect DNA damage and chromosomal alterations in cultured cells. In vivo studies, using animal models, provide insights into the systemic effects of nanomaterials on genomic stability. Advanced imaging techniques and next-generation sequencing (NGS) can also be employed to detect and characterize DNA damage and mutations at a molecular level.
