Tapping mode, also known as intermittent contact mode, is a widely used technique in atomic force microscopy (AFM). This mode involves oscillating the cantilever at a specific frequency close to its resonant frequency. The cantilever "taps" the surface lightly during each oscillation cycle, which minimizes the lateral forces that can damage sensitive samples.
