The therapy involves the injection of these nanoparticles into the bloodstream, where they accumulate in the tumor due to the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. Once accumulated, the nanoparticles are activated by a specific wavelength of light, generating heat that selectively destroys the cancer cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissue.
