To mitigate the risks associated with nanotechnology, Friends of the Earth recommends:
Precautionary Principle: Advocating for the implementation of the precautionary principle, which suggests that the absence of complete scientific certainty should not be used as a reason to delay measures to prevent environmental degradation. Transparency and Public Engagement: Promoting transparency in nanotechnology research and development, and encouraging public participation in decision-making processes. Robust Regulation: Calling for comprehensive regulations that specifically address the unique risks posed by nanomaterials, including mandatory safety testing and labeling requirements. Independent Research: Supporting independent, publicly-funded research to better understand the environmental and health impacts of nanotechnology.
