Liposomes are composed of one or more phospholipid bilayers surrounding an aqueous core. Drugs can be encapsulated either in the aqueous core or within the lipid bilayer. When administered, these liposomes can fuse with cellular membranes, releasing the encapsulated drug directly into the target cells.
