How did Kroto discover Buckminsterfullerene?

In 1985, Kroto, along with his colleagues Richard Smalley and Robert Curl, conducted experiments to understand the chemistry of carbon in the cosmos. Using a laser vaporization technique on graphite, they discovered the C60 molecule. The discovery was serendipitous and led to a new understanding of carbon's structural diversity. This breakthrough earned the trio the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996.
