Why are Surface Characteristics Important in Nanotechnology?
At the nanoscale, a large proportion of atoms are on the surface as opposed to being in the bulk. This makes surface properties exceptionally important. For instance, nanoparticles have a higher surface area-to-volume ratio, which enhances their chemical reactivity and interactions with other materials. This can be leveraged for applications in drug delivery, catalysis, and sensor technologies.
