Twinning refers to a phenomenon where two or more crystal structures share some of the same lattice points in a symmetrical manner. In nanotechnology, twinning can significantly influence the mechanical, electrical, and optical properties of nanomaterials. Twinning occurs when some of the atoms in a crystal are shifted to generate a twin boundary, creating a mirror image of the crystal structure on either side of this boundary.
