Phosphorescence is a type of photoluminescence related to fluorescence. Unlike fluorescence, which re-emits absorbed light almost immediately, phosphorescent materials can re-emit absorbed light over a longer period. This is due to the involvement of triplet states, which are more stable and require more time to transition back to the ground state.
