Two-dimensional (2D) materials are crystalline materials consisting of a single layer of atoms. The most well-known example is graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice. Other notable 2D materials include transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), and phosphorene.
