What are the Limitations of SEM in Nanotechnology?
Despite its many advantages, SEM has some limitations: - Sample Preparation: Samples often need to be coated with a conductive material, which can be time-consuming and might alter the sample's properties. - Vacuum Requirement: SEMs typically operate under high vacuum conditions, which may not be suitable for all types of samples, especially those sensitive to vacuum. - Resolution Limits: Although SEM provides high resolution, it is not as high as that of a Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).
