The NNI has four primary goals: 1. Advance a world-class nanotechnology R&D program: Support innovative research that leads to breakthroughs in nanotechnology. 2. Foster the transfer of new technologies into products for commercial and public benefit: Encourage the commercialization of nanotech innovations. 3. Develop and sustain educational resources, a skilled workforce, and a dynamic infrastructure and toolset to advance nanotechnology: Ensure the U.S. has the human and physical resources needed to lead in nanotechnology. 4. Support responsible development of nanotechnology: Address environmental, health, and safety concerns related to nanotechnology.
