Despite the advantages, there are several challenges in the development of IPCs. One major challenge is the heterogeneous integration of different materials and components, as photonic and electronic devices often require different fabrication processes. Another challenge is reducing optical losses in waveguides and other components. Additionally, achieving efficient and reliable coupling between photonic components remains a significant hurdle.
