How Has Nanotechnology Improved Data Storage Density?
One of the most significant contributions of nanotechnology to HDDs is the increase in data storage density. Technologies such as Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) and Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) have been developed to store more data on the same disk surface. PMR aligns magnetic bits perpendicularly to the disk surface, while HAMR uses localized heating to enable higher density recording.
