The process begins by applying a high electric field to a liquid at the tip of a narrow capillary. The liquid forms a Taylor cone, and when the electric field overcomes the surface tension, it emits a jet that breaks into fine, charged droplets. These droplets can then undergo evaporation or other processes to form nanoparticles.
