The core principle behind spin valves is the Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) effect. When the magnetization of the ferromagnetic layers is aligned parallel, the resistance is low. Conversely, when the magnetizations are antiparallel, the resistance is high. This change in resistance can be detected and utilized for data storage and magnetic sensors.
