Nanowire batteries function similarly to conventional batteries, but with a key difference in the electrode materials. Traditional batteries use bulk materials, while nanowire batteries use nanowires, which provide a much larger surface area for the same volume. This increased surface area allows for more charge to be stored and enables faster charge and discharge cycles. Typically, silicon, gold, or manganese oxide are the materials used for these nanowires.
