Currently, regulations surrounding nanomaterials are still in their infancy. Many regulatory bodies are grappling with how to classify and manage these substances. The European Union has taken some preliminary steps by including nanomaterials in its REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals) regulation. In the United States, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are also looking into nanotechnology, but comprehensive guidelines have yet to be established. The lack of standardized regulations creates a grey area that can potentially lead to unsafe applications and environmental contamination.
